Transit crime fell by more than 10 percent systemwide even as ridership topped 10 million passengers. The decline was attributed to increased patrols and new surveillance technology. Riders surveyed said they felt safer on trains and buses compared to previous years. The MBTA said it would continue expanding its public safety programs.
